“Her lips were like the soft beauty of a delicately designed silken scarf”
Howard Gordon
I have a bad habit of buying lip balm every other week, I thought I was suffering from really dry lips until a friend of mine told me that most store brought lip balms having a drying effect on your lip.
I was always reapplying my lip balm every hour, which is probably why I got through so much of the stuff. I decided to try and make my own and save a bit of money too.
This is the quickest lip balm recipe and I only use 3 ingredients, no need for slowly melting your ingredients together over a double boiler, just whack it in the microwave for 1 minute and you’re pretty much done.
I used coconut oil and beeswax.
Coconut oil has antibacterial and moisterising properties, the fatty acids create a barrier on your lips that locks in moisture.
Beeswax acts as a thickening agent, it’s also a natural protectant that soothes and hydrates your skin.
Place your coconut oil and beeswax in a microwaveable jug. Give it a stir after 30 seconds, mine was completely melted after 1 minute but times may vary depending on your microwave.
I stirred in a few drops of essential oils, I used 3 drops of peppermint oil and it’s very subtle.
I’ll be making some tins of lip balm to give out at Christmas and I’ll swap the peppermint oil for vanilla extract and a bit of honey for an extra yummy lip balm.
Carefully pour your mixture into a pot or tin.
It hardens within minutes but I still left mine for around 30 minutes before putting the lids on.
And you’re done.
Quick, easy and only one jug to clean ☺️
I use this after my Lip Scrub, throughout the day and before bed. I also use it as a cuticle oil once a week.
